Scottsdale, AZ was last recorded in 2007 with an estimated population of 240,000.
One of the many tidbits of history making Scottsdale famous is the proud claim of being the site of Frank Lloyd Wright's winter camp which he set up here at the base of the McDowell Mountains in 1937. His architectural style continues to influence and grace many of the buildings in Scottsdale and Phoenix alike.
The city was incorporated in 1951.
As late as the 1960s Scottsdale was still home to many traditional Pima Indians and was a popular suburb for lower-middle class citizens.
The Indian Bend wash bisected the city. The taxpayers did not have the funds to build bridges over the wash so many times were left stranded on one side or the other during floods. Eventually, federal tax dollars were allocated to cement the canals and build bridges for better traffic flow. This project was the start of the great park system and golf courses that now make Scottsdale a pleasant place to live. This was pretty amazing foresight or luck. Soon after over spending on these projects the city became the place for retirees and families to move to. This in turn helped the city gain the extra tax dollars to continue and finish their canal and bridge projects.
Scottsdale is known to be where all the pretty people go to see and be seen! A plethora of fine dining, exquisite shopping, art galleries and night clubs make this a for sure stop for tourists visiting our great state.
